Muse & Master (Self Portrait)

“You can have no dominion greater or less than that over yourself.”
– Leonardo da Vinci

It has long been supposed that Leonardo da Vinci painted his own face on the Mona Lisa.

Female artists of the Italian Renaissance, like Sofonisba Anguissola [whose 1556 Self-Portrait Painting the Madonna was used in the creation of this collage], have received scant recognition for their contributions to history.

“Life is full of surprises, and I try to capture these precious moments with wide eyes.” – Sofonisba Anguissola

A portion of proceeds from sales goes to the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, DC), the first museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women through the arts. The museum addresses the gender imbalance in the presentation of art by bringing to light important women artists of the past while promoting great women artists working today.
